Refunds on qualifying taxes from prior years
After being certified as disabled and granted an income tax exemption, you may be entitled to a refund of qualifying taxes you have already paid — through your employer or directly to Tax Administration Jamaica — over previous years, subject to the applicable regulations and approval. To claim, you generally need your confirmed TRN, a letter from the Ministry of Labour & Social Security stating that you are certified disabled, your P24s for the relevant years, and completed IT05 forms. I claimed and received an education tax refund after my own exemption was approved. Many people never realise this money is owed to them. I can help you understand which years and which taxes may be refundable, and what records you need to pull together so the claim is processed smoothly.
Persons with a certified disability who have paid income or education tax through an employer.
After my exemption was granted I received an education tax refund covering several prior years.
