Registering with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities

JCPD Registration Guidance

The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) is the island's lead agency for disability affairs, and registration with the JCPD is the starting point for most of the benefits described on this site. To receive a service or benefit, a person with a disability must be registered — registration helps the JCPD understand the needs and locations of persons with disabilities so it can plan and deliver services. You can register at any Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) office in your parish, by downloading the forms from the JCPD website, or at the JCPD head office at 10 Ripon Road, Kingston 5. Every applicant must attend an interview, and a medical form completed by a competent medical doctor or health-care professional is required before the interview. As a person registered with the JCPD myself, I can explain exactly what registration involves and what documents and medical evidence you will need.

What this covers

  • Where and how to register (MLSS office, JCPD website, or head office)
  • Preparing the Application for Registration and Medical Eligibility Report
  • What to expect at the required interview
  • Using your registration to unlock housing, grants, tax relief and more

Eligibility

  • A long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairment that substantially limits daily life
  • Application for Registration, signed and JP-verified
  • Medical Eligibility Report completed by a medical doctor or health-care professional
  • Birth certificate, TRN, and two JP-certified passport-sized photographs

Who can apply

Any person living with a disability in Jamaica, or a parent, guardian or caregiver applying on their behalf.

From my own experience

I am registered with the JCPD, and that registration is what opened the door to the housing, grant and tax benefits I have received.
